New Delhi: Every pet parent or lover wants their pet to live long and stay with them, as it is shattering to lose them after 10–13 years, which is their average life. But a dog in Portugal surprised everyone out there by setting a record for being the oldest dog ever at the age of more than 30 years.

The Rafeiro do Alentejo purebred dog ‘Bobi’ has been named the oldest dog ever officially recognised by Guinness World Records. The dog has now lived for more than three decades. The life narrative of the dog is documented in a video that Guinness World Records tweeted.

Bobi was registered with a veterinarian in Leiria, Portugal, in 1992. It has been determined that he is 30 years and 266 days old. Together with his brothers, Bobi was scheduled to be euthanized as a puppy, but his present owner, Leonel Costa, was able to hide him and subsequently adopt him into the family. The reason Bobi has lived such a long life is the subject of several theories from the dog’s owner.

The “quiet, pleasant atmosphere” he grew up in might be to blame. He has always loved roaming freely and has never been locked up or attached to a leash. Additionally, the dog is “extremely friendly” and enjoys interacting with other animals, even cats. Additionally, he consumes a lot of water—roughly one litre every day. In terms of diet, Bobi has always consumed “human food” devoid of seasoning.

The video was tweeted by Guinness World Records with the caption, “Say hello to Bobi, the oldest dog ever recorded by Guinness World Records at 30 years and 266 days.”

The longest-living dog in the world was named Gino, a Chihuahua mix from the United States, by Guinness World Records in December last year. Gino won the title at the age of 22 years, 76 days, and 23 hours.

Australian cattle dog Bluey, who lived to be 29 years and 5 months old, previously held the record for the oldest canine ever documented. Bluey was mentioned numerous times in the Guinness World Records book before his away in 1939.
