New Delhi: A trend is going on internete where women of Generation Z women are coming up to adopt the concept of “free bleeding.” It is a move to abandon conventional menstrual hygiene methods.
This trend pertains to elmiminate hygiene products to absorb menstrual blood, thus allowing the menstrual cycle to proceed naturally without any hindrance.
It became a hot topic on the social networking platform TikTok, where young women over the internet shared their experiences. The iconic girl of this trend, Charlee, has boldly stated that she is embracing blood for no reason.
She admitted it sounds “crazy” to some, but she insisted it’s both “healthy” and profitable, the New York Post reported. Charlee’s enthusiasm drew mixed reactions, with skeptics questioning potential consequences, such as staining clothes.
Annette, another free bleeding advocate, described her dedication to honoring her body during menstruation. She chooses to stay home during her period and uses a towel to manage the process.
For these rare outings, she has to rely on menstrual underwear. Annette enthusiastically believed that free bleeding provides a unique, almost “orgasmic” experience. Some online testimonials claimed that free bleeding not only changed their menstrual approach but also their menstrual cycle.
Doctor’s Opinion
The New York Post reported that Dr Amy Carmichael, while intrigued by these claims, stressed the need for more scientific studies to substantiate them. She explained that while tampons are known to cause menstrual cramps, there is currently no scientific evidence to support the notion that free bleeding will lead to fewer periods.
However, she stressed that individual choices about menstrual hygiene must be respected. Dr Carmichael also praised the tendency to bleed for no reason for its role in reducing menstrual stigma.
By encouraging open discussions about menstrual flow, it contributes to a culture of self-care during menstruation, which is essential due to hormonal changes that can increase sensitivity during this time.
