Bengaluru: Early Sunday morning, a disturbing incident occurred in Bengaluru when a woman and her companions were threatened and verbally abused by a Namma Yatri auto driver. The confrontation unfolded around 4 AM as the woman, along with two friends and a child, was returning home from a friend’s house.

In a detailed account shared on social media platform X, Vanshita Agarwal described the harrowing experience. She claimed the driver became aggressive after disputing the fare shown on the app, which he deemed insufficient. As the women insisted on paying the app’s fare, the driver reportedly escalated the situation, shouting and using abusive language.

Agarwal recounted how the driver’s aggression forced them to seek safety at their building’s main gate and contact security. When the driver followed them and continued to shout, they used the app’s SOS feature and called the police. Despite their attempts to get help, the SOS feature was unresponsive, and their pleas to emergency services went unanswered.

‘The driver demanded my phone and grew increasingly aggressive. We were terrified and had to warn him to stay away,’ Agarwal wrote. She shared a brief video clip showing the driver’s face, emphasizing her desire for accountability.

The post garnered attention from Alok Kumar, ADGP for Training, Traffic, and Road Safety, who advised Agarwal to file a complaint with the nearest police station for further action.

The incident highlights ongoing issues with rogue auto drivers in Bengaluru, who have been reported for overcharging and abusive behavior. In a contrasting case, an Uber driver recently earned praise for helping a NASSCOM vice-chairperson reach the airport after her car broke down.
