A video, which has gone viral, showing a doctor and her children purportedly beating her elderly in-laws over a family fight has sparked outrage on social media, with people demanding strict action against her.
Police in Annapoorneshwarinagar registered a case against Dr. Priyadarshini N, who works at Victoria Hospital, on a complaint from her father-in-law J Narasimaiah, who resides in RHCS Layout in west Bengaluru.
Narasimaiah alleged that his son Naveen Kumar (also a doctor) married Priyadarshini in 2007, but the couple subsequently filed for divorce. On March 10 at about 8:30pm, she went to Narasimaiah’s house with her children, abused the family verbally, threatened to kill them, and physically assaulted Narasimaiah, causing injuries to his head and back.
Authorities have filed a case under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and insult. As they are bailable offenses, she will be interrogated by the police before filing chargesheet against her based on available evidence.
Police stated that the family disagreement had been going on for years. Priyadarshini claims she visited to confront her husband for neglecting to send money for their children. She alleges that her in-laws initiated the fight and started recording only after she and her children responded. Authorities are still trying to confirm both sides versions.
