In Bengaluru, which is known as India’s startup hub, there’s been a rise in funny memes online showing unique events that happen only in the city. These memes, called “peak Bengaluru” moments, talk about interesting things that happen in the city, especially in its IT sector. Recently, a story from 2012 came up again when a man named Aashish Bansal talked about his chat with a traffic officer on X (formerly Twitter). Bansal explained how their talk turned into a discussion about work.

In his social media post, Mr. Bansal reminisced about an occasion when his friends hurried to the closest ATM to withdraw money to pay the fine. Upon their return to the scene, they witnessed him exchanging business cards with one of the traffic officers, who happened to operate an advertising agency. He described how the situation transformed into an opportunity to engage in a conversation about the advertising sector, which he had ventured into in 2010.
Bengaluru man narrated the incident
In a detailed post, Mr. Bansal recounted, “Two of my friends had flown in from Australia, and we were enjoying a night out on the 13th Floor. This was back in the days before Bengaluru had embraced microbreweries, and traffic congestion after 10 PM wasn’t as prevalent. Among us, one individual acted as the designated driver, refraining from alcohol consumption, fully aware that police checkpoints, like the one at Domlur, were likely to be in operation.” As anticipated, authorities stopped the group’s vehicle at a checkpoint. Despite having all the documents in order, they received a fine of ₹ 500 for an expired Pollution Under Control certificate.
With the morning nip in the air back in Bengaluru, it’s an opportune time to share my @peakbengaluru story from 2012.

He went on to mention that he remained with the police officer as a guarantee while his friends went to locate an ATM. However, upon their return, they witnessed an event “beyond belief.”
“I found myself exchanging business cards with one of the traffic marshals. This volunteer happened to run an advertising agency, coinciding with my entry into the advertising field two years prior. We engaged in a lengthy conversation about the industry, culminating in the exchange of our business cards. It was fortunate that there was minimal traffic that Saturday night at Domlur around 11 PM – a scenario unimaginable today,” Mr. Bansal recounted.
