Bengaluru : In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining a healthy work-life balance has become more crucial than ever. Prioritizing mental well-being over long hours at work has become a necessity, with some opting to leave work early to spend quality time with loved ones or themselves. However, not everyone agrees with this perspective.

A recent post by a man from Bengaluru sparked online debate when he criticized those leaving work early. He expressed surprise at finding a co-working space empty at 6:30 PM and shared a photo of the deserted office to highlight his point.

“There was a time when I had to arrive at the office by 7 AM and leave at 2 AM to be the first to arrive and the last to leave. This is a co-working space in Bangalore at 6:30 PM. Shame,” he wrote.

Since the post went viral, it has garnered over 5 lakh views. Reactions have been mixed, with many criticizing the entrepreneur for promoting excessive work hours and overlooking the importance of personal time.

In response to the post, one user explained, “People leave early to avoid traffic and work from home.” Another questioned the entrepreneur’s viewpoint, asking, “Why would I work insane hours if I am only paid to work 8 hours?”

A supportive comment stated, “Not shame, this is right, employees do have a life after 6 PM.” Criticism towards the entrepreneur included, “You decided to waste 120 seconds by writing this tweet.”

Another comment emphasized, “Get a life! Start living before it’s too late. Impact counts not hours.”

Narayan Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, faced criticism after suggesting that young people should work at least 70 hours a week to achieve success. Speaking on a podcast hosted by former CFO TV Mohandas Pai, Murthy emphasized that India’s work productivity is among the lowest globally. He argued that unless productivity improves, India would struggle to compete with countries that have made significant progress. Murthy urged young Indians to adopt a mindset of working long hours to contribute to the country’s development.

His remarks sparked a contentious debate on social media, with some supporting his viewpoint and others strongly criticizing it. Supporters believed that increasing productivity through longer work hours was necessary for India’s economic growth. In contrast, critics argued that such a work ethic could lead to burnout and neglect of personal well-being, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance and productivity measured by outcomes rather than hours worked.
