A woman in Bengaluru was slapped by an auto driver after cancelling a ride booked through Ola. The incident occurred in broad daylight and was captured on video, sparking outrage on social media. The driver, identified as R Muthuraj, was arrested by the Bengaluru police after the video went viral. The video has since amassed over 66,500 views, with many calling for the driver’s license to be revoked and stricter action to be taken.
Heated Argument Over Ride Cancellation
The woman initially booked an auto through Ola but cancelled the ride and opted for another one when her friend’s auto arrived first. The driver of the cancelled ride followed her, furious over the cancellation. The situation escalated quickly, and a heated argument broke out. The video of the altercation shows the woman repeatedly asking the driver, ‘Aap chilla kyu rahe ho?’ (Why are you shouting?), to which the driver angrily responds, ‘Galti se kaise hota hai?’ (How is it a mistake?). The driver further questions her about the cancellation, asking, ‘Tera baap deta hain kya gas ke paise?’ (Does your father pay for the gas?).

As the argument intensified, the woman threatened to report the driver to the police. The driver, undeterred, challenged her to accompany him to the police station. When she suggested going to a different police station, the driver suddenly slapped her in front of other auto drivers. The woman managed to capture the entire incident on video, which was later shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Outrage On Social Media
The video has sparked widespread outrage, with many users demanding strict action against the driver. ‘How dare he! Cancel his license and throw him behind bars,’ one user commented. Another user expressed their disgust, writing, ‘This is utterly disgusting, CP Bengaluru. Please take action immediately.’
Many people noted the driver’s frustration appeared to be linked to the language barrier, as the woman spoke in Hindi. ‘He seems more frustrated about the Hindi language,” wrote a third user. Another added, “Strict action needs to be taken on this person. How can he behave in such a manner?’
Police And Ola Respond
Alok Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police for Traffic and Road Safety, criticized the driver’s actions, saying they harm the reputation of auto drivers. He assured that the authorities will take the right steps. The Magadi Road Police have arrested the driver and are taking legal action.
Ola also responded to the incident, stating that the situation ‘sounds quite alarming’ and will be thoroughly investigated. The company assured that they are looking into the matter to prevent such incidents in the future.

Woman’s Account Of The Incident
The woman shared her version of the events on social media, explaining that she and her friend had initially booked two autos due to peak hours. When her auto arrived first, her friend cancelled the second booking, which enraged the driver of the cancelled ride. Despite explaining the situation to the driver, he became increasingly aggressive and began hurling abuses at the women.
‘The driver went on to verbally assault us, questioning whether the auto belonged to my father and making derogatory comments,’ she wrote on X. ‘I began recording, which enraged him further. When I mentioned reporting him, he showed no fear of consequences and even slapped me when I resisted.’
The woman also alleged that the driver threatened further violence, saying he would hit her with his slippers. She demanded immediate action from both Ola and the Bengaluru police.
