New Delhi: Indian government has warned against Apple Watch 8.6 or earlier WatchOS. According to the government, it has many weaknesses. These vulnerabilities are assigned a high severity rating.
Such a vulnerability could allow hackers to run arbitrary code and bypass security restrictions on watches running WatchOS 8.6 and earlier.
To resolve this issue, the government recommends that Apple Watch users update to the latest version of WatchOS 8.7. Apple also listed this weakness on its support website.
In a vulnerability note, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) said that all Apple Watch models running older versions of WatchOS are affected by this security issue. It has been awarded a high security rating by the nodal cyber security agency.
According to CERT-In, these loopholes could allow hackers to run arbitrary code and bypass Apple’s security barriers on targeted smartwatches.
Some vulnerabilities exist due to a buffer overflow in the AppleAVD component, an authorization issue in the AppleMobilityFileIntegrity component, out of scope writes to the Audio, ICU, and WebKit components.
CERT-in also announced other reasons for the existence of these vulnerabilities in Apple Watch models.
These include type confusion in the multi-touch component, multiple out-of-bounds writes and memory corruption in the GPU drivers component, out-of-bounds reads in the kernel component, and memory initialization in the libxml2 component.
