There has been a paradigm shift in the way news is being reported and the way it is being consumed. With the decline of traditional electronic media in terms of viewership, there has been an emergence of Digital media and people have started to consume the news over their smartphones and laptops in just a few clicks. The platform of news consumption might have changed however, the news remains the same. Inspiring stories and news that matter to the common public still does not find a place in the new online portals. To refine this and bring inspiring individual stories and relevant news of all segments, Bhupender Kumar (Director) along with his partners Rishi Dubey (Director) and Sumit Kr Vasudev (General Manager) started NEWS44, an all-new online news portal.
NEWS44, a Delhi-based online news portal that aims to bring out fresh inspiring stories is all geared up to go live from March this year. Talking about the idea behind starting this new news portal, Bhupender Kumar answers a few questions possessed to him.
- Why did you feel the need to start NEWS44?
Well, the reason for us to start NEWS44 is that along with relevant news that matters to common people, we also want to bring forth inspiring stories of individuals who are significantly contributing to society. I believe News is just not about politics, diplomacy, tragedies, and war but it is also about bringing forward the unheard voices which generally do not make it in the National media.
- What kind of Journalism you are seeking to do with NEWS44?
We, at NEWS44, want to bring Journalism that is free of any bias and one that does not promote any kind of propaganda. Being an independent news media outlet, we also have the privilege and liberty to have unfettered freedom, without any external influence when it comes to reporting and publishing news. We want to report facts and we believe to achieve this because we have a dedicated, experienced, and hard-working team of reporters, content and news writers, and editors.
- Why Digital and not Electronic TV Media?
It is not a military secret that this is a digital era and people like to consume news over their smartphones and laptops as they provide convenience to them at their fingertips. Traditional electronic media has been under a sharp decline in terms of viewership and this is what led to the emergence of Digital media portals we want to make NEWS44 a top-notch digital news portal. Apart from this, we also plan to roll out our premium print newspaper on a daily basis that will be provided to all our subscribed newsreaders.
- From politics to journalism, how do you think this transition will help you in contributing to your news venture?
Yes, I have been into politics and administration and have seen things closely being the Director at DCCWSL, Delhi Government. This has helped me in understanding the way government functions and this also gave me a depth idea of issues faced by the common people.
