Viral: An 86-year-old man breaks world and national records in his last competition of weightlifting. He lifted 75 kg in his first attempt at the 2023 British Drug-Free Powerlifting Association (BDFPA) championships on March 18.
The man named Brian Winslow from Derbyshire bettered the first record by lifting 77 kg in his attempt. Mr Winslow now holds the British and World Records in the 60kg category for male competitors aged 85 to 89 years old, according to the BDFPA.
Mr Winslow, who began weightlifting as a young man while working as an attendant in south Devon, said, “I’m delighted.”
He said, “It’s always great to get a record or two. I was exhausted straight after but okay.”
As he wants it to be continued as long as possible he said, “Weightlifting is a huge part of my life, alongside my children and grandchildren. I’ll keep carrying on for as long as the body allows.”
