Tizi Hodson, a 70-year-old woman from Lincolnshire, United Kingdom has received a response to her job application as a motorbike stunt rider nearly five decades after she first sent it. The letter, which she wrote in January 1976, was finally returned to her after being found behind a drawer at a post office. This unusual delay has left Hodson both surprised and amused, as she often wondered why she never heard back about the job.
The letter came with a note that read, “Late delivery by Staines Post Office. Found behind a draw [sic]. Only about 50 years late.” Hodson expressed her disbelief, saying, “I always wondered why I never heard back about the job. Now I know why.” She is also puzzled about how the letter was returned to her after moving more than 50 times and even relocating to different countries.
A Dream Of Stunt Riding
Hodson clearly remembers the day she wrote her application. “I remember very clearly sitting in my flat in London typing the letter. Every day I looked for my post but there was nothing there, and I was so disappointed because I really wanted to be a stunt rider on a motorcycle,” she shared. Being a woman, she was careful not to reveal her gender to avoid any bias from the hiring team. In her letter, she even stated that she wouldn’t mind breaking bones, saying, “I didn’t mind how many bones I might break as I was used to it.”
Despite her application never reaching the intended recipients, Hodson didn’t let that stop her. She went on to live an adventurous life, working as a horse whisperer and snake wrangler. She later became an aerobatic pilot and flight instructor, traveling the world and embracing her “daredevil” spirit.
Life Full Of Adventures
Reflecting on her journey, Hodson wishes she could advise her younger self. “If I could speak to my younger self, I would tell her to go and do everything I’ve done. I’ve had such a wonderful time in life, even if I have broken a few bones,” she said.
Receiving the long-lost letter has brought back memories and a sense of fulfillment for Hodson. It reminds her of the dreams she once had and the adventurous life she has led. Even though it took almost 50 years for her application response to arrive, she looks back on her life with gratitude for the experiences and adventures she has enjoyed along the way.
