New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Monday has taken suo motu cognizance in a case where a young man was assaulted, hanged to a tree and set on fire a few villagers in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place in the public view, mentioned the NHRC in a press released issued while adding that the group of attackers wa led by the village head of Divaichi on March 28.

As per the media reports, the victim was subjected of such inhuman treatment due to the allegations of theft. Reportedly, after subjecting him to such inhuman treatment the perpetrators left the victim hanging, presuming that he is dead.

Later, the victim man was rescued by his brother-in-law and was admitted in a private hospital for medical treatment.

The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of human rights violations of the victim.

NHRC Seeks Report In Six Weeks 

It issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh calling for a detailed report in the matter within six weeks including status of the FIR registered in the matter and health status of the victim as well as monetary relief, if any, has been granted to him by the administration.

According to the media report, carried on 6th April, 2023, the entire incident was video recorded by the villagers and when the video went viral, it came to the notice of the general public.
