New Delhi: After a core committee meeting of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday, a proposal was passed urging senior leader Sharad Pawar to continue his role as chief.

The meeting was held in Mumbai to mull over the party’s future after Pawar announced his resignation on May 2 at the launch of the second edition of his autobiography, ‘Lok Maze Sangati’.

Ahead of the meeting, the NCP workers gathered around the party office to hail slogans for Sharad Pawar and insisting him to rethink his decision.

Earlier in the day, Clyde Crasto, national spokesperson of NCP had told media persons that Praful Patel would propose a resolution to reject the resignation of Sharad Pawar and will request him to take back his decision.

NCP leader and daughter of Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule also reached to party office to attend the meeting. Senior leader and nephew of the NCP founder, Ajit Pawar also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Congress chief of Maharashtra unit Nana Patole said it is an internal matter of NCP, they will take decision on it.

The announcement made by Sharad Pawar sent shockwaves throughout the party workers and the nation, which followed a series of protests to urge the Maratha strongman to continue his role.

In one such protest on Thursday, NCP leader Sharad Pawar reached among the protestors to tell them that he took the step for the future of the party.

” I believe that there should be a new face for the Party. A committee has been formed to take the final decision very soon,” Pawar told the protesting party members.
