Mary Kom, a boxing icon, has resigned from her position as India’s chef-de-mission for the forthcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris due to personal reasons, as reported by PTI. She expressed feeling uncomfortable about stepping down but explained that she had no alternative.

Kom was selected as the chef-de-mission by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in March of this year, with the belief that she was the ideal candidate to provide guidance and support to the athletes during the Paris event. She intended to collaborate with luger Shiva Keshavan, who would serve as her deputy.

Sharath Kamal is poised to represent India as the flag-bearer at the upcoming Olympics.

Mary Kom’s role as the chef-de-mission was to lead and represent the national team at the Olympic Games. Kom was tasked with coordinating and overseeing all aspects of India’s participation in the Games as the team leader.
