New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha should be put on the fresh currency notes.

In a press briefing, the Delhi CM said the Indian economy was not in a good shape and we need a lot of efforts to get our economy back on track, but along with that we also need blessings of our gods and goddesses.

Appealing to the Central govt, Kejriwal said there should be an image of Mata Lakshmi ji and Ganesh ji on the currency with Mahatma Gandhi ji.

“There should be a picture of Lakshmi ji and Ganesh ji on the currency with Gandhi ji, the deteriorating economy of the country will be blessed-many steps should be taken, this is also one of them,” he added.

Citing the example of Indonesia, he said Indonesia is a Muslim country and there are 85 percent Muslims and only 2 percent Hindus but there is a picture of Lord Ganeshji on the currency.

The Delhi chief minister said he was not asking for a change in currency notes but was requesting new notes to include photos of Lakshmi and Ganesh.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief said he would soon write to the Prime Minister with his request.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also endorsed the idea and said, “Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are symbols of prosperity. With their blessings, the country will prosper and become number one.

“Putting a picture of the two deities along with Mahatma Gandhi on the currency notes will prove to be auspicious for the entire country,” he added.
