New Delhi: Following a ruckus broke out at AR Rahman’s ‘Marakkuma Nenjam’ concert, DGP Shankar Jiwal has ordered a probe into traffic congestion on East Coast Road (ECR). The event took place at Panaiyur on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

Chief Minister MK Stalin’s convoy was also stuck in traffic. Stalin was returning to the city after attending a wedding in Mamallapuram. Tambaram police station has been asked to conduct a thorough investigation.

They will question the concert organizers about the security and precautionary measures taken on site, traffic arrangements, parking and medical facilities. The live concert became an evening of bitter experience for many.

Anger Appeared On X

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to complain about poor crowd management, traffic regulations and poor parking.

“Around 7 p.m., the room was full. People kept coming. Many ticket holders had to wait for hours and could not enter the hall,” said Ajay U, a Rahman fan.

The composer took to social media and said, “Dearest Chennai Makale, those of you who have purchased tickets and were unable to participate due to unfortunate circumstances, please share a copy of your ticket purchase to [email protected] with your complaints. Our team will reply to you as soon as possible.”

He also posted: “Someone calls me G.O.A.T… this time let me be the sacrificial goat so we can awaken together…” The event management team, ACTC Events, said they were grateful to Rahman and the positive and incredible response from the audience, which made the show a huge success.

“For those who could not attend due to overcrowding, we sincerely apologize. We are fully responsible and accountable,” said a notice posted by the company on X.

There were complaints of harrassment amid the crowds. Images came up showing a teenage girl crying while being stuck in the crowd, having no space there.
