Justice Mishra is currently the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The five-member collegium said the Supreme Court has a sanctioned strength of 34 judges and is currently functioning with 32. Two Supreme Court judges, Dinesh Maheshwari and MR Shah, have recently retired.
The collegium, while recommending the names of Vishwanathan and Mishra, said on Tuesday (May 16) that by the second week of July, four more vacancies are going to happen and the working strength of the judges will further decrease.
