Greater Noida, UP: Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) sent notice to a famous society in Greater Noida West over loud ringing of temple bells. After the notice was circulated, society residents and AOA (Apartment Owners Association) called out the pollution board. In response, UPPCB changed its decision and withdrew the order late in the night. The incident has welcomed different reactions from online users.
A well-known society in Greater Noida West houses a temple in its common area, where residents gather daily for worship. Some of the society members, however raised concern over the loud voice coming from ringing the temple bells. They complained to UPPCB, after which the officials of the pollution board visited the society and carried out an investigation.
UPPCB Issues Notice Over Temple Bells’ Noise Levels
It was found during the investigation that the sound of the temple bell exceeded 70 decibels. UPPCB immediately issued a notice to the AOA of society, which stated that the sound should be reduced to less than 55 decibels. Following the notice, AOA issued a circular on the society’s WhatsApp group urging them to slowly ring the bell during puja.
Society Residents Protest And Challenge Pollution Board’s Decision
However, the appeal resulted in protest led by the society members. The notice was widely shared across social media platforms sparking debate. On noticing the matter turning into controversy, UPPCB retracted its order late in the night.
Regarding the matter, UPPCB Greater Noida Officer has issued clarifications. He said that they have withdrawn the notice as it has hurt public sentiments. A complaint letter was given by a resident of the society following which investigations were made and it was found that the sound exceeded the standard sound, he added.
