New Delhi: Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, resigned to the state governor on August 9 after his Janata Dal (United) party decided to break ties with the dominant alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I have resigned as the CM. All MPs and MLAs of the JD(U) are at a consensus that we should leave the NDA,” Kumar told reporters outside the Raj Bhawan.
The resignation came hours after Kumar reportedly declared that the alliance with the BJP was “finished” because the saffron party was “not showing respect” and “conspiring” against them in a meeting with party MLAs.
After offering his resignation, Kumar travelled to the home of the former chief minister Rabri Devi, where he is expected to speak with Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and her son about creating a new administration.
