Naseeruddin Shah is one of the finest actors that Indian cinema has, he has been speaking vehemently on the issues of quality movies, acting and politics. In his recent interview with Karan Thapar for The Wire, he spoke on various subjects but what touched more nerves was his thoughts on the Indian PM Narendra Modi.

Modi believed he was there for life

On the coalition government of NDA, the veteran actor said that Modi had a strong belief that he was here in power for life and was invincible. “He went ahead assuming that he would be Prime Minister for life. He genuinely believed until this election that he’s invincible and right about everything.”

“Sharing power is going to be a bitter pill for him to swallow, that’s what I feel as a common man.” Naseer went on to call out Narendra Modi, his statements, traits, thoughts… left, right and centre.

Talking less sense over years…

Over the debates that made more controversies than sense, he said, “He has been talking less and less sense over the years.” On the most amusing comment of PM Modi about his birth, Shah reacted – To have the country in the hands of someone who believes he has been sent by God if he’s not actually God, should scare the daylights out of anybody.

Modi is far too egoistic to believe he was wrong in any way, wearing a skullcap could be a gesture, said Naseeruddin as he wishes that the government should move ahead for inclusivity. He recalls the incident when a maulavi offered him a skullcap to wear and PM resisted. As per Shah, that reflected a wrong message in the society and wearing it for once would show a gesture that he’s not separate from us and we all are inclusive.
