Noida: Taking cognisance of the recent incidents pertaining to lift failure in societies and high-rise buildings, the state government is thinking to implement Lift and Escalator Act to regulate the buildings and complexes having lifts and escalators.
Noida MLA Pankaj Singh, in the state Assembly, said that Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida & Greater Noida) has more multi-storeyed residential buildings, commercial, institutional buildings, and shopping complexes and due to the neglect of the standards, accidents are happening frequently, many people have lost their life in recent accidents.
The Noida MLA said the incidents created fear among people, which is why there is an urgent need to implement the Lift and Escalator Act at present. Earlier, he raised the matter in the review meeting of the Meerut Division held in Lucknow in January.
Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh also raised the issue of an incident where a woman died due to lift failure in his home district. The draft of the Lift Act is ready with the PWD, which is to be placed in the House after approval in the cabinet.
First proposal was sent in 2015
A proposal to implement the Lift Act was proposed to the government by the Noida Authority in 2015, which is still awaiting approval. The number of high-rise buildings is increasing rapidly in Noida-Greater Noida. In such a situation, there should be concrete laws for the safety of residences.
As the matter is being highlighted again, it seems that the government would take measures quickly and come up with the Escalators and lift act.
