New Delhi: Today is the birthday of Lord Krishna who, according to Hindu mythologies, is among the gods of India. The sacred Hindu book, Bhagwat Geeta was written from his speeches during the Mahabharat war. He is a symbol of courage and knowledge in Indian culture. When it comes to Indian cinema, he has been depicted very effectively by many directors. A lot of songs were dedicated to his legacy.
Thanks to Bollywood songs over the years, the colour and contagious fervour of “dahi handi,” which is a significant component of the holiday of Janmashtami, have been brought from the streets of Maharashtra, notably Mumbai, to many homes.
Here is a look at some well-known film songs that helped “dahi handi,” now recognised as a state sport, gain fame across India as children across the state build human pyramids to break an earthen pot of buttermilk hung in midair.
“GOVINDA AALA RE”
The iconic song honouring Lord Krishna from Shammi Kapoor’s 1963 movie Bluffmaster remains a fan favourite. It was written by Rajendra Krishna for the Manmohan Desai-directed film and performed by musical legend Mohammed Rafi.
Shor Mach Gaya Shor
The superhit song is from the Shatrughan Sinha, Moushumi Chatterjee, Johny Walker, and Mehmood action flick Badla from 1974. The song was written by Laxmikant-Pyarelal for Kishore Kumar.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also offered prayers at the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami. He had earlier gone to Mathura to worship on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.
