The India national cricket team was expected to continue their high-performance rate when Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach of the side. However, the Indian team reached a new low following their losses in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and the Test series against New Zealand. The Kiwis pulled off a miracle as they became the first team to defeat the Indian team at home in a more than three-match Test series. As the India national cricket team is all set to take on Australia in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series, Gambhir’s future as head coach of the side is also at stake.

Gautam Gambhir addressed a press conference before leaving for Australia ahead of the IND vs AUS 2024-25 Test series. Gambhir spoke upon various issues and queries regarding the team combination in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the IND vs AUS 1st Test, set to be played in Perth. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar seemed to be miffed after seeing Gambhir in the press conference ahead of IND vs AUS BGT 2024-25 Test series. Manjrekar shared a post on his official ‘X’ handle and gave an advise to BCCI. Sanjay advised the team management to either send Ajit Agarkar or Rohit Sharma to the press briefings and let Gambhir work in the backend of the management.
The post read, “Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes. He does not have the right demeanour nor the words when interacting with them. Rohit & Agarkar, much better guys to front up for the media.”
