Oscars 2023: Gujarati film Chhello Show has been locked as India’s official entry at International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards.
The Gujarati film is based on the life of a young Samay’s pursuit of happyness which is a 35mm screen. Growing in a conventional Indian village, he chases light which, he believes, will eventually will help him tell a story on big screens. Directed by Pan Nalin, Chhello Show stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta. The film premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021.
Cara Cusumano, Festival Director, Tribeca Film Festival was quoted saying, “As the first major film festival of 2021 to be back in-person and the center piece of the reopening of the arts in New York, we couldn’t think of a more perfect film than THE LAST FILM SHOW to set the table for the Tribeca Festival this year as the kick off to our Spotlight program. This transportive film epitomizes everything we have been missing for the last year in its celebration of the magic and community of the big-screen movie-going experience.”
In a major surprise, Chhello Show defeated The Kashmir Files and RRR in the Oscars race. While RRR dominated worldwide prominence, The Kashmir Files brought the entire nation to the theatres.
