In the heated run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh compared his opponent, Bollywood actress and BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut with comedian Kapil Sharma. Addressing a public gathering, Singh quipped that Ranaut’s penchant for self-promotion rivals that of a professional comedian, implying that her campaign lacks substance and is more about entertainment than serious political engagement.
He compared and didn’t stop there; he questioned Ranaut’s commitment to the people of Mandi, particularly highlighting her absence during the devastating floods that hit the region last year. He argued that while the sitting MP, Pratibha Singh, was actively involved in relief efforts, Ranaut, despite her claims of being a “daughter of Mandi,” did not make any significant contributions or visits to the affected areas
Furthermore, Singh criticized Ranaut’s campaign as being more about theatrics than real development. He accused her of focusing on “politics of entertainment” rather than addressing the constituency’s serious issues. Singh contrasted this with his developmental agenda, which includes plans for transforming Mandi into a smart city and enhancing infrastructure through projects like the Jalori Jot tunnel.

Singh’s remarks underscore a broader strategy by the Congress to paint Ranaut as an outsider more interested in her celebrity status than in genuine political service. This narrative aims to sway voters by emphasizing the need for committed local leadership over star power. The contest in Mandi thus encapsulates a classic clash between celebrity allure and traditional political engagement, making it one of the most watched battles in the upcoming elections
