New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann has announced that his government has decided “to rename the Chandigarh airport after ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh'”.

The Punjab AAP convener took to the Twitter and made the announcement. He said that “Punjab and Haryana governments have decided to rename the airport and he held a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana Dushyant Chautala in this regard.”

Chandigarh Airport is a customs airport serving the union territory Chandigarh, Mohali, Punjab, and Panchkula, Haryana, respectively. The airport caters to six domestic airlines and connects Chandigarh to 17 domestic destinations and 2 international destinations.

Chandigarh Airport conducted all civil and commercial activities from the civil enclave of the Indian Air Force Station. In the 1970s, Indian Airlines began running flights between Chandigarh and Delhi. In the civil enclave, a brand-new airport building was built and inaugurated on April 14, 2011. On August 19, 2011, this airport was designated as a customs airport, allowing a select few international flights possible, but no foreign flight has ever left from this terminal.
