Guwahati: Five out of six MLAs from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) in Manipur joined the BJP on Friday. This comes after Kumar parted ways with BJP in Bihar.

The statement issued by Manipur Assembly Secretary K Meghajit Singh said that the speaker is pleased to accept the merger of five JD(U) MLAs with the BJP under the tenth schedule of the Constitution.

The five MLAs who joined BJP are: Khumukcham Joykisan Singh, Ngursanglur Sanate, Md Achab Uddin, Thangjam Arunkumar and LM Khaute.

JD(U) won six of the 38 constituencies it had contested in the Assembly elections held in March this year.
