Hours after 31 Naxalites were gunned down in a major anti-Naxal operation carried out by the Central and state security forces in Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with the state’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and reviewed the situation.
According to reports, the Shah-Sai discussion took place late last night shortly after the killing of 31 Naxals in an intense gunfight that took place in the dense Maad region, located on the border between Narayanpur and Dantewada districts in Abujhmad.
This encounter – said to be one of the most decisive encounters in recent years – saw the security forces successfully neutralizing 31 Naxals and recovering a large cache of arms, including LMGs, AK-47s, and INSAS rifles. As per latest reports coming from the area, the operation is still ongoing, with additional forces being deployed to the region.

The Encounter In Abujhmad: A Major Blow To Naxalism
The encounter took place in the rugged terrain of Maad, a part of the larger Abujhmarh region, known for its difficult terrain and dense forest cover, which has provided cover for Naxal operations for decades. Acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding a gathering of Naxal cadres, the police, supported by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), launched a well-planned operation.
IG Bastar P Sundarraj confirmed that a total of 31 bodies of Naxalites have been recovered so far from the encounter site. In addition to neutralizing the insurgents, security forces also recovered a significant arsenal of weapons, including LMG (Light Machine Gun) rifles, AK-47s, SLR (Self-Loading Rifles), INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifles, .303 caliber rifles, and other arms.
The recovery of such advanced weaponry proves that the Naxal group involved in the encounter was well-armed and possibly planning a major operation or attack. The loss of such powerful weapons, coupled with the elimination of 31 insurgents, may severely impact Naxal operations in the region for the foreseeable future.
