New Delhi: Redmi, one of Xiaomi’s sub-brands, is preparing to launch its latest mid-sized range smartphone, the Redmi 12, in India soon. The device has already been made official in Thailand, and despite the complex branding of the company’s devices, it has been given a simple name. According to GizmoChina, it appears to be the successor to last year’s Redmi 11 and features a design similar to the Note 12 series. The good news is that this device could be launched in India soon as its software has now been finalized for the market.
A balanced mid-range smartphone, the Redmi 12 is seen on the official MIUI server with MIUI-V14.0.2.0.TMXINXM software, indicating its readiness for India. It seems that Xiaomi has tailored the Redmi 12 with custom software specifically for the Indian market. This build may differ from the build found on Thai counterparts of the device. The Indian version of MIUI could offer language support, local services, and unique features according to Indian preferences.
The smartphone (Redmi 12) comes with a 6.79-inch LCD display offering FHD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and 550 nits peak brightness. The Redmi 12 features a triple rear camera setup. For photography, the device includes a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor at the back. On the front, there is an 8MP selfie shooter.
Under the hood, the Redmi 12 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 processor, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery unit with 18W fast charging support. The device’s 8GB + 128GB variant is priced at THB 5,299 ($148). However, there is no official information available regarding the price of the phone in India yet.
