Xiaomi has seemingly skipped the 16 series after the 15 series and has jumped straight to launching the all-new Xiaomi 17 phones. Introducing the benefits of a foldable phone’s selfie capabilities in a new form factor, Xiaomi will soon be unveiling the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Pro Max. Both phones feature full-width secondary displays on their backs, offering a range of creative functionalities for everyday use.
Xiaomi 17 Pro
The standard flagship unveiled by the brand is a highly capable model. Its standout feature is the rear display with a 904 x 572 px resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and the ability to reach 3,500 nits of peak brightness with DC dimming.
The front display is a 6.3-inch LTPO panel with a 1–120Hz refresh rate. It uses M10 luminescent material and supports DC dimming, maintaining up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness. This screen is protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass.
The 17 Pro is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is further paired with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and comes in 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage variants. Additionally, it features a 4,637mm² vapor chamber for enhanced cooling.
To ensure long battery life despite the dual screens, Xiaomi has used higher-density silicon content, achieving a 6,300mAh battery. The device supports 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 25W reverse charging (both wired and wireless). For long-term battery health, it is equipped with Surge G2 battery management.
The rear camera setup includes a main sensor using a 1/1.28” Light Fusion 950L sensor with 16.5 stops of dynamic range and an f/1.67 Leica Summilux lens with OIS. The phone also features a floating prism design to accommodate a longer telephoto lens
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
The Pro Max features a 6.9-inch LTPO display with a 1–120Hz refresh rate, 12-bit color, and up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness. It also includes a secondary 2.9-inch rear display with a 976 x 596 px resolution—significantly larger than the small screen once seen on the Xiaomi 11 Ultra four years ago.
The 17 Pro Max retains the same 50MP 1/1.28″ Light Fusion 950L main sensor with an f/1.67 Leica Summilux lens, OIS, and LOFIC HDR, along with a 50MP 102° ultra-wide and a 50MP 90° selfie camera, identical to the 17 Pro. However, it upgrades the telephoto camera with a redesigned prism layout that houses a larger 1/2″ ISOCELL GN8 sensor and a brighter f/2.6 aperture 5x lens (compared to f/3.0 on the 17 Pro). The only compromise is a slightly longer minimum focus distance for tele-macro shots—30cm instead of 20cm.
Both models are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. The 17 Pro can withstand submersion in up to 4 meters of fresh water, while the 17 Pro Max can go as deep as 6 meters.
