If you use a Windows device, the possibility of your device shutting down without any warning might confuse you as well. But it’s clear that Microsoft is about to pull the plug on Windows 10 support starting October 14, 2025. This means that devices running Windows 10 will no longer receive critical security updates, technical fixes, or new feature updates.
The Windows 10 platform has now reached the end of its life. While the operating system will still be functional, the lack of security updates will leave it more susceptible to hackers and attackers.
Upgrade to Windows 11
While quite a lot of devices will be able to upgrade, hardware limitations might prevent some users from moving beyond Windows 10. Older machines may lack sufficient RAM or CPU power. In such cases, users can always look forward to alternatives like Chrome OS or Linux.
What the Experts Say
Windows experts recommend that users should upgrade as soon as possible. Upgrading will help with better security, improved performance, and overall system stability. The change is considered critical for both home users and companies.
Due to the widespread success of the platform, consumer groups have formally written to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella urging the company to reverse the decision. The group has warned that the move could affect millions of PCs and leave them vulnerable to major cybersecurity threats.
Unique features of Windows 10 that helped it stand apart
The Start Menu button that was previously removed made its big comeback with the all-new Windows 10. Hence, the interface had a more classic look, and for quick use, the OS also had Live Tiles for applications and information.
Windows 10 was also the first to introduce Cortana, Microsoft’s first AI assistant, allowing users to search and set reminders with voice prompts. Another big update that Windows 10 brought along was the introduction of Microsoft Edge, which replaced Internet Explorer.
Since at the time Windows was channeling out to bring in new platforms, all devices had an Xbox streaming application and a Universal Windows Platform that could run across all Windows 10 devices.
