WhatsApp rolled out Status updates recently and they are similar to Instagram Stories. Users can now receive likes on their Status updates, said messaging platform in a recent blog post. Users can also re-share their friends’ WhatsApp Status updates if they’re mentioned in it privately. This is new for the instant messaging platform and the experience and interface appear familiar to Instagram Stories.
“With status likes, private mentions and the ability to re-share a status you’re mentioned in, we’re making it easier to reach the people who matter most,” said WhatsApp.
How These Features Work On WhatsApp?
Status likes: Users can now like the status on WhatApp with a single tap on the green heart button. “Status likes are private and don’t have a counter, so only the person whose status you liked can see them as a green heart in the list of viewers,” said WhatsApp in a blog post.
Private mentions: Users can now re-share the status on WhatsApp in which they are privately mentioned. “Make sure those closest to you see your status, and let them reshare it easily with their audience, by privately mentioning them. Those you mention will be notified privately, and the mention won’t be shown on your status,” read blog post.
These features are now starting to roll out, and will be available globally to users soon. WhatsApp said that it will be bringing more features to Status and the Updates tab over the next few months.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp recently rolled out another Instagram Stories-like feature. It recently allowed users to share longer video status updates. Previously, users could share only 30-second videos, however, after the update, users are able to share up to one minute video. This feature is in like Instagram. However, both of these are Meta-owned platforms.
