In the pursuit of adding on new features to WhatsApp to make it much more like Instagram, the development team behind the messenger app is now working on the development of a new Instagram-like feature for status updates. The new feature will allow users to save drafts and finish them later. The feature has already been rolled out to some of the beta users.
WhatsApp has recently added a new draft-saving tool for chats, allowing users to quickly identify chats where a message was written but was not sent. The new draft feature will make it simpler to keep track of ideas and unfinished thoughts and avoid forgetting important messages. A similar feature will soon be brought to the status section as well.
Already in Beta Testing
As per a recent report by WABetaInfo, some beta testers have seen a new option inside the status editor that lets them save any unfinished updates. Users will soon be able to save their unfinished status as drafts, whether they are text, stickers, drawings, or photo edits. They can save it and continue to add to it later.
Similar to Instagram, the editor window would soon become a workspace where drafts can be saved without publishing or sending anything.
Easier to save unfinished drafts
According to the report, a new save button would appear at the top of the editor, and tapping it will store the draft in the user’s gallery so they can come back and finish it anytime. If you wish to step back from the edit, WhatsApp will ask you the question: would you like to discard the update or save it as a draft?
This will help prevent users from losing their work by mistake, especially when switching between applications. The feature is not yet available for everyone, but since it has already been tested with beta testers, a wide rollout of the new feature is expected soon.
