WhatsApp is reportedly introducing multi-account support for iPhone users, a feature Android users have enjoyed since 2023. This update will allow iOS users to run two WhatsApp numbers within the same app, making it easier to manage work and personal accounts without logging out or using the separate WhatsApp Business app. Each account will have its own chat history, notifications, media settings, privacy options, and backup data, ensuring that the two accounts operate independently.
How WhatsApp multi-account support works on iOS
The update enables iPhone users to add and use two different WhatsApp accounts within a single app, without needing another phone or the business app. According to WABetaInfo a new option has been added in the Settings page, either under an “Account List” section or as a shortcut next to the QR code icon. From there, users can add a new number, log in to an existing account, or link a companion account by scanning a QR code. This makes switching between multiple accounts seamless and convenient.
Each WhatsApp account will have its own chat history, notifications, media settings, privacy options, and backup data, ensuring that one account does not interfere with the other. Notifications will clearly indicate which account received a message, helping users manage two profiles without confusion.
Easy switching between accounts
Switching between accounts is simple. Users can do this via the Account List, by long-pressing the Settings tab, or using a quick double-tap gesture. App Lock features like Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode protection will still work when accessing a secured account. Accounts can also be removed from the Account section, and previously used numbers are saved for easier login later. The multi-account feature is being gradually rolled out to both beta and stable users.
Guidance for suspended users
WhatsApp is also introducing a feature to help users understand why their account was suspended. The platform will provide brief explanations highlighting the specific behavior that caused the suspension. These notifications appear during the review process, helping users avoid repeating mistakes. This preventive tool also guides users to follow WhatsApp’s rules, reducing the chances of future bans.
