WhatsApp Message Translations feature: Popular messaging platform WhatsApp keeps rolling out new features to boost user experience. Recently, the Meta-owned platform introduced a new feature called ‘Message Translations’ to make it easier for users to communicate across languages. Now, users won’t be required to use external translation apps or tools to translate and understand the messages in different languages.
WhatsApp Message Translations feature: How it works
Using the new WhatsApp Message Translations feature is quite simple. All you need to do is simply long-press the message and select the ‘Translate’ option. Next, select the language you want the message to be translated to or from and download it for future use. This feature works for personal chats, channel updates and groups.
If you are an Android user, you have the option to enable automatic translation for an entire chat thread. This will translate all future incoming messages in the conversation.
WhatsApp Message Translations feature: What it means for your privacy
Meta says the new Message Translations feature is aimed at protecting the privacy of users, which is why the translations take place on their devices, where WhatsApp can’t see them.
“We’re rolling out message translations to Android and iPhone users gradually from today, in a few select languages to start with more to follow. For Android users, translations will initially be available in six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. For our iPhone users, the feature will launch in 19+ languages,” said Meta.
“We hope this feature helps break down language barriers and allows users to connect more deeply,” it added.
