UPI is down again for the second time this week. Several users in the country faced problems in making payments using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Users faced issues in making payments on applications like Paytm, SBI and Google Pay. According to Downdetector, outage reports spiked throughout the day, reaching their peak in the late afternoon and evening, impacting fund transfers, payments, and app functionality.
The number of complaints reached 449 at 8 PM, according to monitoring reports while fund transfer problems through apps affected 53% of users. The UPI system controlled by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) experienced a complete breakdown that resulted in 64% of complaints about fund transfers and 28% related to payments, and 8% to application malfunctions. Customers of SBI who use UPI encountered several issues, 57% of them experienced fund transfer problems, 34% faced mobile banking issues and 9% reported account balance update issues.
The outage graphs from Downdetector showed an increase in UPI complaints between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, but SBI users experienced their greatest difficulties starting at 10:00 PM leading to 87 complaints before additional issues occurred during the afternoon. Social media platforms became overwhelmed with messages from users who stated their transactions failed along with reporting problems with refunds and app bugs.

People shared memes on their social media handle on this UPI payment failure. A social media user poster about it on his X handle and wrote, “Visited an ATM after ages today to withdraw money and I’m hearing UPI is down“
