This year’s upcoming iPhone 17 models could be the last in a long line of variants to feature a Camera Control Button. The leak, which has been circulating online, originated from China. A post on the Weibo account “OvO OvO OvO OvO” claimed that Apple has informed its suppliers that it will no longer continue ordering the component.
The Cupertino brand has reportedly cited low user engagement and a desire to cut costs. While no other sources have confirmed the claims, and with no official word from Apple, the update should be treated with caution.
The button has been divisive ever since its debut on the iPhone 16 series. Some users appreciate the added tactile control for zooming and quick adjustments, often comparing it to professional camera hardware. However, usage reports have also pointed out that the new addition feels redundant alongside existing screen controls.
Whether Apple continues refining the Camera Control Button, rethinks its purpose, or phases it out entirely will likely depend on how much value it has added to the user experience over time. Speculation about its demise is almost surely premature. Apple will probably make a final decision after the iPhone 17-much like when similar discontent arose over swapping the mute switch for the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
