New Delhi: In a bid to make Twitter more user-friendly, CEO Elon Musk has made an announcement saying that a feature of audio, as well as video calls, will be included on the platform soon.
Musk, Tuesday, tweeted about the new feature, and said, “With latest version of app, you can DM reply to any message in the thread(not just most recent) and use any emoji reaction”.
“Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number,” Musk added.
A year back when Musk expressed his willingness to buy the micro-blogging platform, he revealed his plans the ‘enhanced platform’ that he called, “Twitter 2.0 The Everything App.”
He added that the new platform would be having more features such as encrypted direct messages (DMs), long-form tweets and even payments.
Cannot be trusted: Musk doubts Meta
In a following comment, Musk said the WhatsApp messaging service controlled by Meta “cannot be trusted.”
Rollout of this new feature on Twitter would be facing-off with other free messaging platforms such as Telegram, Signal, Messenger and WhatsApp.
Highlighting this new feature, Musk also informed users that Twitter on Wednesday will be starting the process of encrypting direct messages on the platform and disorganizing content to safeguard privacy.
After Elon Musk bought Twitter last year for $44 billion, he has been executing changes in an impulsive way, which has not been so positive for users. Many of the Twitteratis were upset after Musk made it compulsory to pay a certain amount in order to keep the blue tick, which the users earned the authentic way.
Elon Musk’s vision
Not long ago, Musk made the tech firm a part of his “X” shell corporation to get rid of the name of the platform, “Twitter,” but continued to have it for the service purpose.
The new voice and video chat service is anticipated to take Twitter closer to its dream of becoming a super app, which always has been a vision of Musk. It will be interesting to see how users will perceive the new Twitter’s feature and how successful will it get.
