TikTok’s Website Access, Glitch Or Comeback Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Speculation about TikTok’s return to India has grown after its website became accessible to some users, though the app remains banned and unavailable on app stores

TikTok, the Chinese video-sharing platform that was banned in India five years ago, has seemingly made a comeback. During its previous stint, the app became a household name with an extensive fan following.

In a positive sign for fans, the website of the short-video app is accessible for some users, sparking speculation about a possible return of TikTok in India. TikTok was banned in the country in June 2020 by the government, citing security reasons. Along with TikTok, 58 other Chinese apps were also banned over data privacy and national security concerns. The vacuum left by TikTok was somewhat filled by Instagram’s Reels feature.

While some users have confirmed that the website is accessible, others have claimed that they were unable to access it. Despite the conundrum, the application remains unavailable on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India. So, while the website is live for some, it does not mean the app has officially returned just yet.

The improving relationship between India and China is another reason behind the buzz of a possible TikTok comeback. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India and meetings with PM Modi and S. Jaishankar, followed by Modi’s upcoming trip to China for the SCO Summit, signal easing bilateral ties that could potentially pave the way for banned Chinese apps like TikTok to re-enter the Indian market.

While the update has left the market abuzz, there has been no official word on the app’s return. For now, its comeback remains conjecture, as no concrete decision has been made.
