Apple and Google are planning to restore the presence of Bytedance’s Tik Tok back to the app stores. The new development comes after US’s attorney general Pam Bondi assured that the ban would not be immediately enforced.
Apple and Google had removed Tiktok in the US in the last month adhering to the law passed in 2024. On January 20, 2025 executive order from the desk of Trump, instructed the attorney general “not to take any action to enforce the act for a period of 75 days from today to allow my administration an opportunity to determine the appropriate course forward.”
To comply with the new Federal Ban TikTok went dark, in Januray 2025. Trump had vowed to halt the enforcement of the law. Google and Apple had not restored the presence of the Application to their app stores immediately.
The Chinese ownership of the application had become a cause of the concern for Us lawmakers. Their prime suspicion was that the application could be sued to spy on American Citizens. As China has stipulated companies with Chinese origin to share data with them as per the request. This law was challenged adhering to the Protecting Americans From foreign Adversary Controlled Applications. The law was supported by both Republicans as well as Democrats in congress and executed last April in 2024.
