Samsung’s upcoming Tri-Fold smartphone was showcased in late October, but the brand hasn’t revealed all the details about it yet. While Samsung has remained mute about the phone’s launch, a recent Bluetooth SIG certification database has revealed a slew of details about the new device.
Interestingly, multiple model numbers were certified — SM-D6390, SM-D639N, SM-D639U, SM-D639U1, and SM-D639B. The fact that we have all these model numbers implies rather wide geographical availability, including North America, China, and Korea.
As per the details revealed, the model ending with “B” is generally Samsung’s global version of a device. Of course, that doesn’t reveal everything about the phones that are about to break cover soon. However, the certifications suggest that the Tri-Fold won’t be limited to just a few markets at first — or that the rollout will expand very quickly once the phone is launched.
Previous rumors indicated that the phone would arrive in the U.S. next year, and that may still happen. Although Samsung has not officially announced the device yet, more details are expected to surface as the launch date draws closer.
A video recently posted by SBS News and Omokgyo Electronics gives us a better look at Samsung’s Tri-Fold phone from different angles. The video highlights how dual hinges are positioned on both sides of the display when folded. The hinge on the left appears wider than the one on the right-hand side. Once unfolded, the cover screen shifts to the right side, while the remaining two panels occupy the space next to it. You get a 10-inch diagonal display when fully unfolded, and the device looks impressively thin when viewed from the sides.
The Galaxy Z Tri-Fold, which is the rumored name of the device, features an external display on the back alongside triple cameras and an LED flash. The camera setup appears to have been borrowed from the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
