With Apple recently moving ahead with a slew of new launches, it seems the Cupertino brand is now planning to move ahead to launch a new foldable device. Previous rumours from supply chain analysts suggested that Apple would be commissioning Samsung to produce foldable screens for them.
A new update has further led the buyers to believe that Samsung is now about to initiate the production of the foldable screens for Apple. Lee Cheong, president of Samsung Display, has now reportedly confirmed mass production of OLED panels for foldable phones. Cheong did not reveal the company name, but it’s widely believed that the company could be Apple.
Apple’s iPhone Fold Rumours
Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold is said to be equipped with a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch folding screen on the inside. The foldable is rumored to feature a side-mounted touch ID sensor instead of a face ID.
As per rumours, the all-new foldable iPhone is rumored to debut in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. The timeline of the new phone launch might still shift.
Mark Gurman’s update on Apple’s First Foldable Device
In his Power on newsletter, Gurman stated that Apple’s first foldable device will be super thin and will be equipped with cutting-edge folding technology. As per Gurman, the production of the phone will involve Foxconn in China.
The upcoming foldable device will have its work cut out, as it will have to compete against rivals such as the Galaxy Z series, which have already captured the market. Hence, Apple might have to reel under the pressure of competing with the Samsung Galaxy Z fold series.
