Samsung to Back Out of Slim Phone Battle – Plans to Pull the Plug on S26 Edge?

Samsung is apparently set to discontinue the Edge series altogether. The brand will not be working on a new successor to the S25 Edge once the current stock of the phones is sold out.

Although Samsung was the first to have launched a new thin phone in the market, it seems that after the launch of the iPhone Air, Samsung is backing out of the thin phone race. According to multiple reports, the Galaxy S26 Edge has been cancelled due to the S25 Edge’s low sales performance. A report from Newspin stated that Samsung is apparently set to discontinue the Edge series altogether. The brand will not be working on a new successor to the S25 Edge once the current stock of the phones is sold out.

While industry reports suggest the cancellation of the successor, a report by GSMArena revealed that Samsung has already completed the Galaxy S26 development and will likely launch the new phone—but not under the Edge lineup. The phone has so far showcased struggling sales, and hence it’s possible that Samsung might finally pull the plug on the Samsung S25 Edge.

Samsung’s Future Plans

Samsung is planning to launch a slew of new devices soon. These will include the Galaxy S26 Pro, S26 Plus, and the S26 Ultra in January.

Before the recent reports, there were insights suggesting that the phone was being retailed at extensive discounts in international markets. Samsung had funneled a myriad of innovations to ensure that this 5.8 mm thin phone had all the flagship features and specs of the time.

Samsung had given the phone a titanium frame, with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear. The phone also had an IP68 certification, making it both water and dust resistant.

Specs

The phone was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 12 GB of RAM. Beyond that, it had a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with sharp QHD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The thinner chassis led the phone to be equipped with a 3,900 mAh battery only, and that became an issue, since the phone was to be retailed at a high price. As of now, the possibility of a successor for the thin phone seems to be in the doldrums.
