Sony recently announced their mid-generation refresh for its current console with PS5 Pro, but now some details about the PS6 are already emerging.
PS6 Expected To Use Same Chip As PS4 And PS5
As reported by Reuters Sony has started working on PS6 and it is expected to use the same AMD chip as PS4 and PS5. In the report, it has been mentioned that Sony had extensive discussions with multiple chip manufacturers. Intel and AMD are the top manufacturers whose names are being highlighted the most.

The decision was made in 2022 that Sony wants to work to prioritize backward compatibility. In discussions, it was found that maintaining backward compatibility with past-gen consoles using an intel chip would be more costly and require too many additional sources as compared to the AMD one. Some disagreements have also been reported between Sony and Intel over cost sharing.
Intel told Reuters, “We do not agree with the Characterization going on, but we will not comment on any current or potential customer conversation. We have a very healthy customer pipeline, and we are very focused on innovation and meeting the needs of our clients.”
