Mobile networks in the country’s rural areas have reached around 97 %. Out of 6,44,131 villages in the country, around 6,22,840 of them have access to mobile coverage.
About 4G Services
As informed in parliament, 6,14,564 villages have 4G connectivity, as of September 30, 2024, according to media reports. According to Dr Channdra Sekhar Pemmasani, 4,543 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups’ Habitations are identified as the uncovered ones, under the PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan. This mission is of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. From the 4,543 PVTG Habitations, 1,136 PVTG Habitations are covered with mobile connectivity, as per media reports.
According to Minister of State for Communications Dr Channdra Sekhar Pemmasani mentioned that, Under the Digital Bharat Nidhi, the government is implementing different programs to expand telecom connectivity by installing mobile towers in rural and hilly areas. Under this comes the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups habitations. By the date of 31 October 2024, 1,018 mobile towers were sanctioned for providing 4G connectivity to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups’ habitations. The estimated cost of this is Rupees 1,014 crore, as per media reports.
About 5G Services
According to the minister, 779 districts are availing the 5G services. This number is out of the 783 districts in the nation, as of October 31. Over 4.6 lakh Base Transceiver Stations are installed in the country, as per various media reports.
