OnePlus Pad Go 2 Review: 10,050 mAh battery, 120 Hz display and 5G connectivity, beyond your typical entertainment companion?

High-quality experience at a mid-range price seems to be the proposition here, as the tablet encompasses all the necessary elements one could seek from a budget tablet

With the increasing computing power of tablets and their ability to provide users with an unparalleled blend of productivity and entertainment, we often encounter the question: can it replace my laptop? While we often try to highlight the merits of both, with products like the Pad 2 Go, you can definitely replace your entry-level laptop.

High-quality experience at a mid-range price seems to be the proposition here, as the tablet encompasses all the necessary elements one could seek from a budget tablet. We received our unit a while back in the Lavender Drift shade, and since then it has been the go-to choice for streaming, gaming, and last-minute editing of editorial drafts. Here’s what we think about the OnePlus Pad 2 Go.

Design and finish

This isn’t OnePlus’ first rodeo. They have been at it for a while, and that is ever so evident in the tablet. Flat edges with a brushed aluminium finish are complemented by the thin chassis at 6.83 mm. You can avail the device in Shadow Black and the Lavender Drift colour. Unlike the previous-gen model, the camera pinhole has now been moved to a more conventional position at the far left corner, and a OnePlus logo is luminescent in the centre of the rear panel. While the massive size is a merit for the tablet, single-hand usage or even holding it for a long while might leave your wrists aching due to its 600 gm weight. Our advice would be to get the folio cover that the tablet comes with right when you buy it.

The immersive screen: your content streaming partner

The screen makes up the majority of the performance aspect of a tablet, and we found the Pad 2 Go to be a complete package. From brightness to refresh rate, the tablet offers immaculate and vivid graphics. The screen stands at 30.73 cm and supports Dolby Vision. Even at its size, OnePlus has been able to ensure a PPI of 284 and a peak brightness of 900 nits in HBM. The tablet offered exceptional clarity even in bright light. OnePlus states that the screen is designed for all-day comfort, with the TÜV Rheinland Smart Care 4.0-certified display reducing eye strain even after continual use.

In our tests, we read on it extensively and even used it for editing and writing drafts. Throughout, we never faced any hiccups with the display. Beyond that, while gaming, even after shifting the display toggle to Ultra, the tablet ran Battle ground at 90 fps.

Performance

The Pad 2 Go is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 730 Ultra, a 4 nm-based chip. We had the 128 GB / 8 GB RAM version and experienced seamless performance. While navigating through applications and gaming at high refresh rates, the tablet performed phenomenally. The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 has an octa-core architecture (4×2.5 GHz Cortex-A78 and 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55), while graphics processing duties are handled by the Mali-G615 MC2.

The previous Pad Go version had a MediaTek Helio G99 (6 nm) chip. The newer processor is much faster and more power-efficient. Tablets generally handle temperatures quite well due to their massive size, and even during extended use, we never encountered heating issues.

Multitasking with Open Canvas

The all-new Open Canvas made our job easier than we had thought. All our drafts and edits could be easily displayed using split-screen and floating windows. To make switching easier, users simply need to swipe down with two fingers to activate split-screen, or pinch inwards with four fingers to convert any full-screen app into a movable floating window.

OnePlus Pad 2 Go Stylo

OnePlus pledges that the Stylo is capable of 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and low latency. The soft rubber tip ensures that the pencil is comfortable and accurate for input. The Stylo offers up to 20 hours of battery life. Not only that, it can power up from 0% to provide up to 12 hours of use with just 10 minutes of charging. OnePlus has incorporated a range of advanced features with the new Stylo, covering every element of note-making. It beautifies handwriting, and the handwriting calculator lets you solve complex equations.

Image cutouts allow background removal on the fly, while image unblur helps in situations where you need to see details in a blurry image. Beyond that, users can also take advantage of AI Writer, AI Recorder, and AI Editor, enabling pro-level edits, AI translation, and summaries. If these features are not enough, the tablet also includes Google Gemini integration.

5G connectivity

This is OnePlus’s first 5G tablet, delivering reliable high-speed connectivity wherever you go. Users can enjoy seamless connectivity in two ways: either by inserting a SIM card into the 5G variant to make calls, send messages, and enjoy smooth video streaming, or by pairing it with their phone using the exclusive mobile data communication sharing feature. Place your tablet near your phone, and the two devices connect automatically.

The new feature reduces battery drain by 30% compared to standard hotspots, allowing for more accurate positioning.

Prices

The 8GB+128GB Wifi equipped version will be available for Rs 26,999, the 8GB+256GB Wifi version for Rs 29,999 and the 8GB+ 256 GB 5G version for Rs 29,999

The mammoth battery

The 10,050 mAh supersized battery ensures that you have a content streaming companion whenever you need it. At times, we found it hard to make a dent in the battery level, and even when we did, the 33 W SUPERVOOC fast charging was able to bring the tablet back to life quickly. OnePlus claims up to 60 days of standby, 53 hours of music playback, or 15 hours of video playback. The pad 2 go performs exceptionally in all dynamics, one of the best choice for users who seek a companion for more than just streaming content, as with its balanced output it can tackle your minimal office tasks with ease.
