OnePlus has launched OxygenOS 16 in India. The new OS update brings a slew of improvements, essential upgrades, and a bunch of AI-powered features. Here are the top new features coming with OxygenOS 16:
Fluid Animations
OnePlus is now using what it calls Parallel Processing 2.0 technology to improve animations on OxygenOS 16. According to the company, this new technology allows animations to begin even before previous actions are completed, leading to smooth transitions throughout the UI — including app transitions, navigation gestures, and system interactions.
Resizable Icons
Users will now be able to expand app icons or folders according to their preferences. OnePlus has further highlighted that the UI has also been optimized for tablets, with users gaining the ability to add up to five apps simultaneously in Open Canvas. Users can now choose between three apps in split view and two in floating windows.
Lockscreen Widgets, New Wallpapers, and Themes
With the new OS update, users can now add Motion Photos and Video Wallpapers to create depth effects during interactions. There is also a full-screen Always-On Display (AOD) option, which shows wallpapers and more information even when the screen is locked.
Fluid Cloud
Users will now be able to receive updates from food delivery apps, Spotify, and sports platforms directly on the lock screen. Beyond that, OnePlus has also added new Gaussian Blur effects, rounded corners, and translucent surfaces. Users will be able to toggle between them from the quick settings menu. Generic applications such as the Clock, Calculator, and others also come with refreshed aesthetics and enhanced functionality.
Plus Mind
The AI experience in OxygenOS 16 is powered by Plus Mind, which was first introduced with the OnePlus 13 S. At launch, the feature functioned more like an advanced screenshot tool, far from OnePlus’s dream of creating a virtual memory palace.
Now, users will not only be able to share images in Plus Mind, but also hold the Plus key on newer phones to record voice notes of up to one minute. There is also support for long screenshot capture, enabling users to store articles or reading material inside the app. Users can now add voice notes in Plus Mind using the search option within the app.
OnePlus has also partnered with Gemini, and users can now find Plus Mind integrated into the Gemini app, where they can ask questions about their saved screenshots directly from the AI assistant.
