OnePlus’s recent flagship, the 15, is facing an issue that a slew of users have raised alarms about. Users have recently reported that the company’s OnePlus AI features, such as the AI Writer assistant, appeared to be politically censoring content, particularly topics that were sensitive to the Chinese government.
OnePlus has addressed the issue and stated that the situation erupted due to technical inconsistencies in the OnePlus AI, leading the company to temporarily disable the AI Writer feature across all devices as per a report by Android Headlines.

How the problem came to light
The problem came to light just this week. A lot of users complained that OnePlus AI features were abruptly refusing to generate output when prompted with certain political terms. Attempts to use the AI to discuss the Dalai Lama, mention Taiwan in a neutral context, or reference Arunachal Pradesh as part of India often resulted in the service crashing immediately or blocking the attempted output. Outside of these specific topics, the AI features reportedly functioned as expected.

AI Writer disabled
The team at OnePlus said they needed more time to fix the issue, and hence the tool was turned off—specifically in the OnePlus Notes app. However, users reported that the AI Writer stopped working across virtually all social media apps. The list includes WhatsApp, Instagram, Google, Gmail, and even the OnePlus Community app.
OnePlus has described the unexpected behaviour as unintentional.
