The credit goes to Charles Erlenkotter for creating and Margaret Farrar for editing. The publication was the first major newspaper to introduce a crossword puzzle in that era. What Is NYT Strands And How To Play?
Strands is a game which combines Connections, Spelling Bee, and classic crossword puzzles. Players get 48 letters on a 6 x 8-inch board and a theme daily. All they need to do is solve the Spangram and uncover all the theme words.
Connect letters on a grid to create words using your mouse or fingers (on a touch screen). Drag your mouse to connect letters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Find the central theme word or Spangram that will help you better understand the Strands theme.
In addition to the Spangram, you also need to look for other theme words in the puzzle. If you find them all, the puzzle is solved.
Tips For Solving The Puzzle
Uncover the theme words: Completely fill out the table with the theme answers. They will be marked in blue colour when found and do not overlap.
Discover the Spangram: Look for the Spangram, a crucial puzzle piece that touches two opposite sides of the board. It sums up the topic and can include two words. It will be highlighted in yellow once found.
Get hints: Look for off-topic words as a guide. Every 3 non-theme words you reveal; the letters will be highlighted with a clue to find a themed word without revealing the word directly.
