Meta AI And ChatGPT Confused By Basic Math, Give Incorrect Answer To Simple Question

A recent incident with the Meta AI chatbot illustrates this issue. According to a report, Meta AI failed to correctly answer a simple math question.

Meta AI Given Wrong Answer: Artificial intelligence has answers to all our questions. AI can present the answer to even the most complex questions in a snap. But does Meta AI give the correct answer to every question? Do AI systems like Gemini AI or ChatGPT provide accurate answers to all questions like Meta AI?

This is a question that has been the subject of much debate for several months. After understanding the conclusions that have emerged from this debate, it appears that large language models, i.e., AI chatbots, do not provide 100% correct answers to all questions.

Meta AI Gave the Wrong Answer

A recent example of this was seen with the Meta AI chatbot. According to a report by Gadgets Now, the Meta AI chatbot could not provide the correct answer to a simple math question. A user asked Meta AI a very easy math question, but Meta AI gave the wrong answer.

According to the report, Meta AI was asked which number is greater between 9.9 and 9.11. In response, Meta AI incorrectly stated that 9.11 is greater than 9.9. A screenshot of this chat on WhatsApp has now gone viral.

After receiving this answer, the user asked Meta AI another question: “Why is 9.11 greater than 9.9?” The chatbot responded by saying that 9.9 is smaller than 9.11 by 0.2. The user then pointed out, “But 9.9 is actually 9.90, so isn’t it greater than 9.11?”

After this, the AI realized its mistake and wrote, “You are absolutely right! I apologize for my previous error. 9.9 is indeed equal to 9.90, and therefore, 9.9 is greater than 9.11. Thank you for catching this error.” In reality, when comparing decimal numbers, the number after the decimal is considered. If we differentiate in that way, 9.9 is greater than 9.11.

Did ChatGPT Also Give the Wrong Answer?

The same question was asked to OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT. ChatGPT also gave the wrong answer, stating that 9.9 is greater than 9.11 because 9.9 is closer to 10, whereas 9.11 is just a little more than 9. Therefore, it concluded that 9.9 is greater.

Additionally, the same question was posed to ClaudeAI, and users received an incorrect answer there as well. This experiment clearly shows that it is not wise to blindly trust any chatbot.
